Please, instead of asking what I do, or what I’ve done, please ask me first: “WHO AM I?”
By knowing WHO I AM, you can anticipate and understand how I will act as your District 7 Ottawa County Commissioner.
So, who am I?
I am someone who has always sought to unite people and build relationships.
- I am a 31 year resident of Georgetown Township.
- I am deeply in love with my wife Sue (42 years of marriage), 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Our children all graduated from Jenison Public Schools.
- I am a life-long traditional Republican.
- I am a servant.
- I am a good listener.
- I am a problem-solver.
- I am a fiscal conservative.
- I am thoughtful and pragmatic.
- I am pro-life.
- I am an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
- I am an attorney, trained and experienced in the affairs of municipal government.
- I am a trusted leader.
- I am a certified civil court mediator.
- I believe in the inherent goodness of people.
I do not believe there is any problem that cannot be solved with hard-work and goodwill.
- I strive to be constantly aware of God’s presence in my daily life and appreciate the wonder and beauty of God’s creations, including and especially in the dignity of humankind.
- I do not dwell in negativity and seek to learn from, but not dwell in, the past.
- I do not hold grudges.
- I live in “gratitude to God” for everything, even difficult circumstances.
- I believe in “common sense” but maybe that’s not so “common” anymore.
